Maclaren

In 1965, Owen Findlay Maclaren MBE invented the first ever baby buggy (also known as a stroller). Observing his daughter's struggle with her unwieldy pram as she and her newborn prepared to travel abroad, Mr Maclaren seized the opportunity to help. Drawing upon his aeronautical engineering background, he fabricated the world's first umbrella folding buggy. Inspired by his work on the folding mechanism of the Spitfire aeroplane undercarriage, he created a compact lightweight buggy. Providing convenience for families during travel and in everyday life, the Maclaren buggy revolutionised the baby transport industry.

Forty years have passed since the introduction of the baby buggy and Mr Maclaren's spirit of inventiveness and commitment to quality live on through Maclaren products. With a product development team housed in the same buildings where Mr Maclaren built his buggies, today's Maclaren designers continue to create innovative children's products providing busy parents with convenient portability.
